Mirzapur Dari

Weaving has been lined with the lives of the people and the environment. Hand weaving in particular is an age old practice and is a universally applied craft. The earliest form of carpet weaving in India dates back to  500 B.C.

 

Various parts of the country have localized weaving tradition. There are certain areas known specifically for Dari or light woven rugs. Different combination of weaving technique is practiced which depends on the usage of distinct materials, different patterns, colours and motifs. Interesting weaves are therefore produced. Dari is classified into two types-Panja and Shuttle Dari. The former being a popular craft in Mirzapur.
