Mirzapur Dari (Handmade Carpet)

The Mirzapur Dari (Handmade Carpet) is entirely done manually, starting from designing, procuring raw materials, dyeing, warping, weaving, and finishing of the product.

Uniqueness:

Earliest form of carpet weaving, reported in India around 500 B.C. in Buddhists texts.

Made up of Pure Cotton and Wool.

Light woven rugs used as a kind of floor covering, woven in the Panja method.

Flat, woven, with reversible design.

Mix of traditional and contemporary designs.

Known for bold colors, patterns, and motifs.

Known for long life and good strength.

Can be used as flooring, sitting mats and even upholstery.

Geographical & climatic conditions add to the refinement of the desired shades of colors.

Mirzapur Handmade Dari has been Conferred with the Geographical Indication (GI) status by the Government of India in 2015 with GI Number 235.
