GiTAGGED® Mangalagiri Green Plain Cotton Salwar Suit with Zari Border

The temple town of Mangalgiri dates back to 500 years and is located between the twin cities of Vijayawada and Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, India. Besides being popular as a pilgrimage destination, it is prominent for its beautiful Mangalgiri Cotton Fabric.

The production of these Salwar Suit involves expansive steps. It begins with the procurement of the cotton yarn from the mills. The yarns are removed of impurities hence making the yarn suitable for dyeing. Post-dyeing, the yarn is sun-dried. The winding of the dried yarn is done into warp and weft as a pre-loom process, to turn the yarn into fabric. These are then fed to the looms for weaving. 

Mangalgiri textile is one of its kind and the uniqueness is in its tight weaving and the Nizam border. The Sarees have a zari border and zari in its pallu but without any embellishment on its body. Woven only in pit loom with pure cotton yarns thus enabling tight weaving which attributes to the sheen in the material which is unique to Mangalagiri cotton fabrics. As mentioned earlier, the Nizam border is the hallmark of Mangalgiri fabric. This has tiny checks with dots in between. The zari is superimposed while weaving, therefore, giving a layered look of its borders.
