The Journey of Indian Coffee : Baba Budangiri Arabica Coffee, The Birth Place of India’s Coffee and the Story Started with Seven Coffee Beans. In 17th Century, a Muhammadan Pilgrim named Baba Budan on his way back from Mecca brings back 7 coffee Beans and plants them near his hut on the high mountain Range (Bababudan Giri) of Chikmagalur, Karnataka.

In those days coffee was exported to other parts of the world in roasted or baked form so that no one could grow coffee on their own and it was illegal to take coffee beans out of Arabia. But Baba Budan was so much in love with coffee that he decided to bring back few berries with him and thus began the Journey of Indian Coffee.

Later In 1820, European Planter Mr. Cannon tries coffee cultivation in his estate in the high range located immediately to the south of Baba budangiri and evntually Coffee Cultivation starts in present Chikmangalur and Hassan Districts.
