After the Post disintegration of the great Vijayanagar empire in the 16th century, it is believed that one set of artists headed towards Tamilnadu and few towards Mysore Province. The Wodeyar king, Raja Wadiyar (1578 – 1617 A.D) of Mysore encouraged the Artisans and thus began a new Era of Paintings in the history of Mysore.

Mysore Paintings vs Tanjore Paintings
Mysore Painting is Characterized by the fine lines, attention to details and focus on soft expressions, unlike Tanjore Paintings, Mysore paintings does not make use stones or any such artificial decorative and the relief work is more subtle and the foil work is more delicate. Basically, a Mysore painting is more intricate, while a Tanjore painting is more ornate. The Mysore style of painting is much older than the Tanjore style.
