Traditionally associated with Afridi tribe of Pathans, the Kutch Rogan art is a 400 Year old technique of Painting Fabric. The Artist does not use any prior sketched pattern but the design is imprinted in his mind. He applies Rogan onto the metal stylus and twists the stylus in desired direction to apply Rogan without the stylus touching the fabric.
Raw Materials
Canvas : Fabric.
Colours : Natural mixed with Castor Oil.
Stylus : 6 Inch metal Stylus.
Preparation of Rogan :
Castor Oil is boiled for more than 12 hours periodically & is mixed with cold water until it thickens into a sticky golden-brown substance called Rogan. Rogan is finally mixed with Rich, Bright, Natural colours & is held onto the Palm and is twisted across the Cloth using Kalam to obtain desired Motifs.
