Extraction of Chulli Oil
• Kernels are removed from Wild Apricot and are dried in Sun for 3 to 4 Days.
• The Seeds are placed into a Stone motor and are grinded into a thick paste with the help of a Pestle.
• The Paste is transferred onto a large kettle pot and is heated at high temperature.
• The heated paste is rounded in form of small cakes and is pressed with hands.
• The Oil starts Oozing from the cake and is collected in an earthen ware, locally called Ghahri.
• The Process is repeated until all the oil is extracted from the Kernels.
• For every 320kg Kernels, 121.6 Kg Oil is extracted.
NOTE: Himachali Chulli Oil has been Conferred with the Geographical Indication (GI) Status by Government of India in 2009 with the GI Number 121.
