Historical Significance
Bee keeping was started in the region by Dr Spencer Hatch in the year 1924.
The Process
1. Extraction : Raw Marthandam Honey is extracted from the Honey comb by breaking the Honeycomb Caps.
2. Cleaning : The Extracted Wild Raw Honey Stored in Wax Coated Container for 4-9 Months. Sediment and Waste Settles at the Bottom.
3. Evaporation of Water : Pure Honey is heated by Traditional Technique called Water Bath Method. The method preserves the Originality of Honey. The Purpose is to remove any water by Turing it into water Vapour.
4. Filtering : Honey is Poured into another Barrel through filtering Cloth.
5. AGMARK : The Pure Honey is sent to the AGMARK Lab for Scrutiny of its Contents.
