Temple Jewellery of Nagercoil
Originated during the reign of Cholas in 9th century, the Jewellery initially adorned the Idols of deities in the temple of Srirangam and Suchindram. The Jewellery was later popularized by the Bharatanatyam dancers and today, the art stands as a personification of the glorious Sangam Period.
A Hidden Secret
The Art of making Temple Jewellery is practiced only at Vadasery, a tiny Village in the outskirts of Nagercoil city, Kanyakumari district and the knowledge is passed only between Father and Son. At present only 40 families are involved in the craft form.
Materials
Pure Silver electroplated (dipped) in Pure 22kt Gold Leaf and is embedded with Pure Kemp Stones (Red), Synthetic stones and Glass.
