Bengal Patachitra – Kalighat Style
Kalighat is a form of Patachitra painting that emerged in and around Kalighat Temple in the Indian State of West Bengal. The Art is painted on a paper, and is manifested by rich colorful application, creative motifs and designs, and portrayal of simple themes, mostly mythological in depiction.
The materials used in the paint are from vegetable, earth, and mineral sources.
The subject matter of the patachitra includes religious, mythological, and folk themes.
