In 16th century, Raja Rai Singh of Bikaner invited few master artisans from the Mughal courts to decorate ceilings, pillars and walls of Junagarh Fort and the historic Rampuria Havelis.

Bikaner Usta Kala Origin: The word 'Usta' is derived from the Persian word 'Ustad', meaning master artist, thus Usta Kala is the Craft of Highly skilled Masters. In 16th century, Raja Rai Singh of Bikaner invited these master artisans from the Mughal courts to decorate ceilings, pillars and walls of Junagarh Fort and the historic Rampuria Havelis. Thus began a new chapter in Usta Kala at Bikaner, Rajasthan.
