Lucknow Zardozi Origin Zardozi originated in Persia and was introduced to India with the Mughals in the 16th century. Apart from Lucknow, the craft also found patronage in the royal court of the Great Vijayanagara empire during 16th Century under the rule of Krishnadeva Raya (1509-1530). Meaning: The term "zardozi" comes from the Persian words "Zar" meaning Gold and "Dozi" meaning embroidery.
